The Hugging Tree

The sunny side of heaven always looks upon me,
Shining, shiny bright, light of color blue.
Say yes as you lie beneath me
And make love to my thoughts,
While the hugging tree welcomes us
To find shelter in its older branches—
Once and forever,
Always too gentle to say no to us.
After all, our souls are built as one,
Intertwined, deep,
Connected to the roots of this long-awaited tree.
I inhale, rising from the sun,
Longing for the warmth of your arms,
Drunk on your not-yet-known scent.
I find myself looking for you
In every pair of strangers’ eyes I meet.
Can you complain? I’m an impatient wreck of nerves.
Can you complain? That’s the only hope I have left.
Breathe, so far as I know,
I feel you neither too far nor too close.
Hopefully, you’ll find me
When I’m not too tired to look.
